Neighborhood Safety

From our Community Policing Team to Neighborhood Foot Patrols, New Columbia is a community that has invaluable resources for our residents.

Streamlining Communication

We are lucky to have four Officers who compose our Community Policing Team – Michael Schmerber, Rachel Strobel, Christina Hansen-Tuma, Derek Carmon. To streamline communication, and keep our 82 acres safe, these officers meet with the New Columbia property management and community building staff to discuss and create solutions for livability issues. These officers have a contact office at 4939 N Feesenden, near the #4 bus stop at the north end of McCoy Park.  To contact these officers, please call North Precinct Offices at . In addition to our Community Policing Team, New Columbia also works with the Office of Neighborhood Involvement’s Crime Prevention Coordinator, Angela Wagnon. One of the largest events of the year, National Night Out, is a great tradition that is rooted through this partnership. Angela organizes Block Watches, Foot Patrols and other trainings for residents who want to take action. To join a Foot Patrol or learn about how you can help keep your community safe, contact  Angela Wagnon at or email

Hearing Your Voice, Creating Solutions Together

With 2,700 residents living at New Columbia there needs to be a forum for community members to learn about what is happening in their community, and have their voice heard. Every second Thursday of the month a Community Town Hall takes place. Together, residents, staff and community members alike meet in the Community Room in Trenton Terrace (4720 N Trenton) to discuss issues and create solutions. This allows us to build community together. Meeting topics range from recycling and sustainability tips to community safety. If you have an idea for a town hall meeting, or would like to learn more, contact the facilitator, Ben Wickham, at
